Southwater Junior Academy, previously known as Southwater Junior School is one of the outstanding schools that we are lucky to have in the village. Located in the heart of Southwater on Worthing Road, Southwater Junior Academy has long provided junior education to children of the village and surrounding areas.
Currently rated by Ofsted as offering a Good standard of school performance, Southwater Junior Academy prides itself on offering “Learning for Life”. In their own words, “We have a clear idea of how we should work together; we care about each other and are committed to our goals; and we have shared high standards that matter to us because we are passionate about education in its widest sense”. The ethos of the school is centred around the core values of kindness, working hard and resilience.
The curriculum offers a diverse range of subjects taught by expert staff, but the primary focus is on English and Maths, helping to prepare students for a life of education and learning ahead. Reading is prioritised to ensure that pupils have access to the full range of curriculum subjects.
No child is left behind at Southwater Junior Academy. Where there are gaps, children are given tailored, specialised and appropriate support. Whether it be from the teachers themselves or the inclusion team of SENCo managers, Emotional Literacy Support Assistants or Family Link Workers, there is a strong team and structure in place to ensure every child is given the environment to thrive.
The school capacity stands at 480 pupils. Southwater Junior School converted into Southwater Junior Academy in July 2011.
The majority of pupils enter into year 3 directly from Southwater Infant School, which is located next door.
